There is nothing to panic about lumpy skin disease. If proper treatment is taken on time, it is possible to prevent the spread of this disease and completely cure the cow, said Upazila Animal Resources Officer Dr. Md. Asaduzzaman.
Lumpy skin disease is a viral infectious disease. Affected cows should be isolated immediately and the nearest livestock department should be contacted. We are continuing regular vaccination and treatment activities. Farmers should be aware and take measures to reduce mosquito infestation in addition to keeping the cow farm clean.
The disease has appeared in almost all villages of Nawabganj upazila of Dinajpur -- in several villages including Laugari, Daudpur, Haluaghat, Kumarpara, Dighipara, cow deaths are also occurring due to the spread of lumpy skin disease. This has caused extreme worry to local farmers and ranchers.
According to multiple sources, for the past few days, cows in these areas have been showing signs of pox, fever, reluctance to eat and weakness. In many cases, the affected cows are dying quickly. As a result, the farmers are facing financial losses.
Jamirul Islam of Laugari village in Daudpur union of the upazila, Dipu Kumar of Kumarpara village, Abdur Rashid of Dighipara village, Liton Mia of the same village, and Jawa Begum of Laugari village have each lost one cow each. They said that they are very affected.
Fatik Mia, a farmer from Daudpur Collegepara area, said that suddenly the cows developed pox and fever. They have been seen by a doctor and are undergoing treatment as per the advice. Now I am also worried about the other cows.
Kamal Hossain, a farmer from Haluaghat village, said that the spread of this disease has created panic in the area. Many are unable to sell their cows, and it has also become difficult to bear the cost of treatment.
Meanwhile, the affected people and locals have demanded immediate effective measures and assistance to the affected farmers.
