Bangladesh has further solidified its position as a global leader in sustainable industrialization, with four more ready-made garment (RMG) factories earning the prestigious LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
With these new additions, the total number of LEED-certified green factories in the country has risen to 284. Among them, 121 have achieved the highest 'Platinum' rating, while 144 have secured 'Gold' status.Bangladesh is now widely recognized as the world's primary "Green Factory Hub." Remarkably, 52 out of the world's top 100 highest-rated LEED factories are located in Bangladesh. This shift toward eco-friendly manufacturing is seen as a strategic move to boost export competitiveness and meet the rigorous sustainability demands of international buyers. The four factories that recently joined the green elite include three Platinum and one Gold recipient:
Pahartali Textiles Ltd (Unit-02): Located in Chattogram, it secured Platinum certification with 86 points under the New Construction (v4) category. Everbrite Sweater Ltd: Situated in Ashulia, Dhaka, it earned a Platinum rating with 83 points for its excellence in energy efficiency and waste management. Siam Computerized Elastic Industries Ltd (Mamtex): Based in Gazipur, this facility achieved Platinum status with 84 points by maintaining superior air quality and sustainable infrastructure. Welldon Apparel Ltd: Located in Sreepur, Gazipur, it attained Gold certification with 75 points for sustainable operations in an existing building.
Industry experts believe this progress acts as a powerful branding tool for "Made in Bangladesh." Mohiuddin Rubel, former Director of BGMEA, noted that the garment industry is now leading not just in production volume, but in sustainable leadership.
"These achievements will further brighten the country's image in the international market, proving that Bangladesh is a role model for green industrialization," he said. While large-scale factories are rapidly turning green, analysts suggest that the next major challenge is bringing Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) under the green umbrella. To sustain this momentum, experts recommend:
Policy support and low-interest "green financing." Technological upgrades to reduce carbon footprints further. Continued investment in water and energy-saving technologies.By reducing long-term operational costs and ensuring a safer environment for workers, green factories are ensuring that Bangladesh's RMG sector remains the preferred choice for eco-conscious global brands.
