Misinformation fuels long-standing nat’l dispute

A press conference was held in Patuakhali protesting what was described as false and misleading information spread on social media against a local leader of the Jubo Dal, allegedly stemming from a family and property dispute. The press conference took place on Monday at 11:00 am at the Patuakhali Press Club. It was organized by Md. Jahirul Islam Liton, Environmental Affairs Secretary of the district unit of the Volunteer Party (Swecchasebak Dal).
In his written statement, Liton claimed that posts published on May 3 on two Facebook pages-"Khobor Patuakhali" and "Amader Patuakhali"-accusing him and his family of "breaking into a neighbor's door" and "looting money" were completely baseless, fabricated, and intentional. He stated that the allegations are actually linked to a long-standing dispute over stairs and land between his uncle Mojibur Rahman and brother-in-law Md. Faruk Hossain, which is now being politically manipulated to damage his reputation. Liton further alleged that on October 25 last year, Faruk Hossain welded shut the entrance door of his uncle's house, preventing the family from entering for nearly six months. A General Diary (No. 22, dated May 1, 2026) has been filed with the police, and the matter is currently under judicial consideration. According to a municipal land office investigation, blocking part of a jointly constructed staircase caused prolonged suffering for the affected family.
At the press conference, Liton's aunt Hafeza Begum said,
"They forcibly blocked our access. After a long wait, we reopened our rightful door.

Now a vested group is spreading false videos and theft allegations against Liton."
Liton said the misinformation campaign has harmed his political and social image. He demanded immediate removal of the false content from the Facebook pages, warning of legal action under the Digital Security Act and defamation laws if necessary.
Family members and local journalists were present at the press conference.
