Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-8) have arrested the main accused in the murder case of female student Sanjida Kabir Anita in Barishal city.
According to RAB, an operational team of RAB-8 conducted a raid in front of the Ichladi Toll Plaza under Uzirpur Police Station in Barishal at around 9:30 am on May 7 and arrested the prime suspect, Md. Mainul Islam Himu, 32, in the widely discussed murder case.
The matter was confirmed through a press release issued on Thursday afternoon by RAB-8 Company Commander and Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Kamruzzaman.
The arrested accused, Himu, is the son of Golam Morshed Jilani, also known as Milton Akon, from the Kathpatti area of Jhalakathi Sadar upazila. He had been living in a rented house on Bogura Road in Barishal city.
According to the case statement, the victim, Sanjida Kabir Anita, 21, had been in a relationship with the accused for nearly two years. On April 23, Anita left home saying she was going to visit her sister’s residence, but did not return.
Her family members later tried to contact her by phone, but found it switched off. After searching with the help of relatives, they learned that Anita was at the accused’s residence, where she was found dead.
Police from Kotwali Model Police Station recovered her body from a room on the sixth floor of Rafi Manzil on Bogura Road in Barishal city.
Following the incident, the victim’s sister filed a murder case with Kotwali Model Police Station.
RAB stated that after the killing, the accused went into hiding and frequently changed locations in an attempt to evade law enforcement agencies. However, through intelligence surveillance and shadow investigation, RAB was able to confirm his whereabouts and successfully arrest him.
The accused has been handed over to Kotwali Model Police Station for further legal proceedings.
