A rural road rehabilitation project costing nearly Tk 60 million has been inaugurated in Sreemangal as part of the government's ongoing rural infrastructure development initiative.
The project is being implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED).
The formal inauguration of the rehabilitation work under the "Rural Road Rehabilitation Project-2" took place at Radhanagar area of the upazila at 4:00 pm on Saturday.
The 5,860-metre road stretching from Sreemangal GC (Radhanagar) through Mohajerabad Bazar to Bishamoni Bazar was officially inaugurated by Alhaj Md Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, Member of Parliament for Moulvibazar-4.
Several important figures from the local administration and political arena attended the inauguration ceremony.
Among those present were Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Ziaur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Sreemangal Police Station Zahirul Islam Munna, Sreemangal Upazila BNP President Nurul Alam Siddiqui, BNP leader Md Yakub Ali, Upazila Engineer Md Abdur Rakib, officials of LGED, and leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations.
According to project sources, the rehabilitation work is being carried out at a cost of approximately Tk 58.55 million.
Officials hope the project will improve communication facilities for local residents and boost overall economic activities, including the transportation of agricultural products. the pickup van used by the suspects.
On information, police rushed in, rescued the injured and took them to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Kaliakair Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam said police responded promptly after receiving the information and took the victims to hospital.
