A mobile court conducted drives against two illegal brick kilns in Bhola's Lalmohan and Daulatkhan upazilas on Monday, imposing fines totaling Tk 450,000 and demolishing both establishments for operating without legal authorization.
The drives were jointly conducted by the Bhola District Administration and the Department of Environment (DoE), Bhola district office.
The mobile court operations were led by Assistant Commissioners and Executive Magistrates Md Abu Raihan and Md Ashraful Alam, along with Assistant Director of the Department of Environment Md Tota Mia.
During the drive in Chaltatali area under Madhya Joynagar Union of Daulatkhan Upazila, the mobile court fined Messrs Meghna Green Bricks Tk 250,000 for operating illegally.
In a separate operation in Khagora area of Gazaria Union under Lalmohan Upazila, Messrs Yusuf Bricks was fined Tk 200,000. The court also filed a case against the owner of the brick kiln.
Following the enforcement action, the illegal brick kilns were demolished using Fire Service equipment, while water was sprayed to completely destroy the structures and stop further operations.
The daylong mobile court operation began in the morning and continued until around 5:30 pm.
Members of the Bangladesh Navy, Coast Guard, district police, and Fire Service assisted the operation to maintain law and order during the drives.
Officials said the drive was part of ongoing efforts to curb environmental pollution and enforce environmental laws against unauthorized brick kilns operating in the district.
