Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) has successfully managed one of the most challenging maritime operations in its history, as its vessel **MV Banglar Joyjatra** safely crossed the strategically vital and conflict-prone **Strait of Hormuz** amid heightened geopolitical tensions, regional conflict, and prolonged operational uncertainty in the Middle East.

The 38,894 DWT bulk carrier, built in 2018, recently completed its passage through the Strait of Hormuz and reached the waters off **Fujairah, United Arab Emirates (UAE)** after securing all necessary navigational clearances. All **31 Bangladeshi crew members** aboard the vessel remain safe and in good health.

MV Banglar Joyjatra entered Middle Eastern waters on **January 26** under a charter arranged by a Singapore-based shipping company. The vessel initially transported approximately **39,000 tonnes of coal** from Mozambique to **Al Hamriya Port in the UAE**. However, shortly after its arrival on **February 28**, escalating regional tensions and military conflict created significant operational risks.

Despite the volatile security situation, the vessel successfully discharged its cargo on **March 11**. The deteriorating security environment then made it uncertain whether the ship would be able to navigate through the Strait of Hormuz and continue its scheduled commercial operations.

In response, BSC management implemented an alternative commercial action plan, directing the vessel to **Al Khaimah Port**, where it loaded nearly **37,000 metric tonnes of fertilizer** destined for ports in East Africa. Remarkably, despite the crisis, the ship did not remain off-hire for a single day, ensuring uninterrupted commercial operations.

The vessel later faced prolonged delays after permission to transit the Strait of Hormuz was denied due to the ongoing conflict. Following weeks of uncertainty, it finally received clearance on **April 18**, allowing it to proceed safely through the strategic waterway.

The successful completion of the mission is being viewed as a major achievement for Bangladesh’s maritime sector, demonstrating BSC’s crisis-management capability, operational resilience, and effective coordination with national authorities.

Throughout the extended period of uncertainty, BSC ensured continuous logistical support for the crew, including food, fuel, communications, medical facilities, and financial incentives such as special allowances and war-risk compensation.

BSC credited the successful operation to close coordination among the Ministry of Shipping, BSC management, the ship’s master, chief engineer, and crew members. Senior government officials, including those from the Ministry of Shipping, reportedly maintained regular communication with the vessel and closely monitored its movements.

The corporation described the operation as a landmark example of crisis management and maritime resilience, highlighting Bangladesh’s growing capability to handle complex international shipping challenges under difficult circumstances.
