International media personality Dr. Salimullah Khan addresses Journalism Training Workshop

A three-day journalism training workshop, intellectual gathering, and certificate awarding ceremony was organized by the Cox's Bazar District Press Club and The Daily Industry, bringing together journalists from across Bangladesh.

The closing ceremony was held on Saturday (July 4) at the Public Health Conference Room in Cox's Bazar. The chief guest was internationally renowned media personality, writer, researcher, and public intellectual Dr. Salimullah Khan. The keynote speaker was Dr. Enayet Karim, President of the Global Economist Forum and Editor of The Daily Industry.

The event was chaired by Freedom Fighter Fazlul Kader Chowdhury, Editor of Dainik Rupali Soikat and President of the Cox's Bazar District Press Club. The program was moderated by Faridul Alam Shaheen, General Secretary of the District Press Club and Cox's Bazar Correspondent of The Daily Industry.

In his address, Dr. Salimullah Khan emphasized that modern journalism is not limited to news gathering; it also requires fact-checking, ethics, responsibility, and professional competence. He noted that mastering foreign languages without nurturing one's mother tongue leads to dependency rather than strength. He also discussed the origin of language, the evolution of meaning, and the proper use of language, highlighting the importance of such training programs in enhancing journalists' professional skills.

The workshop covered a wide range of topics, including artificial intelligence (AI) and fact-checking for combating misinformation, objective reporting, print, online and multimedia journalism, accountability, professional relations with the administration and law enforcement agencies, ethical journalism, and preventing unprofessional journalism.

The resource persons included Dr. Delwar Hossain, Associate Professor of the Department of Communication and Journalism at the University of Chittagong; Khandaker Mozammel Haque, Executive Editor of National Daily Edin and Vice President of the Dhaka Union of Journalists; and Shahidur Rahman Shahid, Editor of Daily Bangladesh.

Among those present were Yunus Sohag, Editor of Dainik Shesh Kotha and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Newspaper Industry Council; Forhad Chowdhury, Associate Editor of The Daily Industry; Sumel Sarkar, Digital News Editor; Abu Hasan, Head of Marketing; Khorshed Alam, President of the Bangladesh Central Press Club, Cox's Bazar District; former Cox's Bazar City College Principal Kay Thing Ong; Mukim Khan, General Secretary of the Hotel Motel Zone, Tourism Affairs Editor of the Cox's Bazar District Press Club, and Editor of Dainik Kaler Samaj; Staff Correspondent Md. Shahin Sagor; Abhi Ahmed Jewel, Chief Coordinator of Green Voice International; along with senior journalists, media leaders, and participants from different districts across the country.

Certificates were awarded to all participants at the closing ceremony. The top three performers in the evaluation test were also honored with special awards.

As part of a nationwide initiative to plant 250 million trees over five years aimed at protecting the environment and addressing the adverse impacts of climate change, a fruit tree plantation program was also held at the Uttaran College campus. The initiative was jointly organized by The Daily Industry and Green Voice International. During the program, Dr. Enayet Karim, President of the Global Economist Forum and Editor of The Daily Industry, planted a variety of fruit-bearing trees.
