Engineer Aminul Hasib of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) is preparing to take legal action under the country's cyber laws, alleging that a coordinated smear campaign has been carried out against him through various online news portals and social media platforms.
According to sources close to him, the allegations circulated in recent days are false, misleading, and intentionally designed to damage the professional reputation and personal integrity of a government official.
The sources stated that Aminul Hasib's recent promotion was granted strictly in accordance with government rules, seniority, professional qualifications, and established administrative procedures. They further claimed that allegations suggesting political influence or personal lobbying behind the promotion have been published without any credible documentary evidence.
They also noted that many of the allegations circulating on social media and certain online platforms rely primarily on anonymous sources and are not supported by any official investigation report, court judgment, or formal decision of the relevant authorities. Publishing such serious allegations without proper verification, they said, has created public confusion and unfairly tarnished the reputation of the officer concerned.
According to the sources, any allegation against a public official should be addressed through due legal and administrative processes. They argued that publishing accusations of corruption, bribery, political affiliation, or money laundering without verified evidence is inconsistent with the principles of responsible journalism.
The sources further claimed that the ongoing campaign has caused reputational harm to Aminul Hasib and his family. As a result, legal action is being initiated against those allegedly responsible for disseminating false and defamatory information.
It has been learned that preparations for filing a case under the applicable cyber security law have been substantially completed. The case is expected to be filed before the appropriate court either today or tomorrow morning.
The sources also emphasized that responsible journalism requires verifying information through reliable sources and obtaining comments from the individuals and authorities concerned before publication.
Meanwhile, the same sources claimed that two individuals within CAAB have been identified for their alleged involvement in spreading the defamatory content. They are expected to be named as accused in the planned legal proceedings.
