A tree-planting and sapling distribution programme was held at Kalarmarchhara High School in Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar, on Tuesday morning to promote a greener coastal environment.
The programme was organised by the school’s Planeteers Club in collaboration with environmental organisations Dhara, Sabujayan Rokkha Amra (MK) and Waterkeepers Bangladesh.
Maheshkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Imran Mahmud Dalim attended the event as the chief guest, while Secondary Education Officer Mohammad Zahedur Rahman was present as a special guest.
Around 400 saplings of fruit, timber and medicinal plants were distributed among students. The guests urged students to plant the saplings properly and ensure their regular care and maintenance.
Three students will be awarded based on the care and monitoring of the planted trees.
Speakers stressed that tree plantation, preventing deforestation, controlling plastic pollution and promoting renewable energy are essential to protect biodiversity, maintain environmental balance and address the impacts of climate change.
They also called for collective efforts by students, communities, institutions and the government to build a clean, safe and sustainable environment.
