Gopalganj, September 16, 2026: A receiver appointed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) took charge of the overall maintenance and management of Swarna Tower in Gopalganj on Wednesday following a court order.
The handover process began at around 10am at the building in Char Sonakur area under Ward No. 13 of Gopalganj Municipality. ACC Assistant Director Abdul Latif Hawladar and Deputy Assistant Director Afsar Uddin were appointed as receivers.
According to ACC documents, the property was seized and placed under restriction following orders issued by the Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court in Dhaka on June 26 and August 24, 2025, in connection with an ACC case filed in January 2025.
Swarna Tower comprises 30 units, a lift, CCTV cameras and various furnishings. ACC officials said the building would now be managed and maintained under the supervision of the appointed receivers in accordance with the court’s order.
Officials from the district administration, ACC and police were present during the handover.
Meanwhile, the property owner’s elder brother, Abul Kalam Azad, expressed dissatisfaction over the move. He said they had received the ACC notice only on Tuesday, a day before the court order was implemented.
Azad said the two brothers had been living in the Philippines for nearly three decades and claimed the building was constructed with their earnings and a loan from Dutch-Bangla Bank. He denied that the property involved any illegal funds and said they had previously submitted relevant documents to the ACC.
He said the family cooperated with the authorities in implementing the court order and expressed hope that the court would return the property following a fair investigation.
