A dispute over 34 decimals of land in Muksudpur has led to allegations of assault on a woman and a man, brandishing a pistol, issuing death threats and taking away a gold chain.
The allegations were raised by members of the affected family at a press conference held in Muksudpur on Saturday afternoon. They sought administrative intervention, a proper investigation and legal action against those allegedly involved.
According to a written complaint filed with Muksudpur Police Station by victim Laboni Akter, several people allegedly entered their home around 4pm on September 17 carrying iron rods, machetes, bamboo sticks and bricks.
They allegedly assaulted Laboni and Nasir Uddin Sheikh. The complaint further alleged that the attackers pulled Laboni's clothes and attempted to assault her modesty before taking away a gold chain weighing approximately eight annas and valued at around Tk 112,000.
The complainant also alleged that the attackers issued death threats and that one of them displayed a pistol during the incident.
The injured victims later received treatment at Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex, according to the complaint.
The affected family claimed that the disputed 34-decimal land in Barabhatra Mouza of Muksudpur was previously allotted to their grandfather, Baher Sheikh, under a one-year settlement arrangement.
According to their application, the land is recorded under old Khatian No. 54 and current Khatian No. 297, with old Dag No. 1044 and current Dag No. 1249.
The family alleged that Nilkantha Mondal had mutated the land in his name and was attempting to sell it. They said they had separately submitted a written application to the Muksudpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer seeking intervention.
However, the actual ownership of the land, validity of the settlement, mutation records and possession need to be established through official documents and an investigation by the relevant authorities.
The statements of the police and administration could not be obtained immediately.
