Youth have held an exceptional program in Lalmonirhat demanding the implementation of the Teesta Master Plan. On Wednesday (October 29) at 13:00, a flash mob and human chain was held at the Lalmonirhat Mission intersection by the youth organization Gen-G Lalmonirhat. The main slogan of the program was - "Jago Bahe, Teesta Bachai".
The flash mob was organized with the active participation of students, cultural workers and young generation from various educational institutions of Lalmonirhat. The youth highlighted the crisis of the Teesta river, river erosion, the fear of losing people's livelihood and the importance of protecting the river through dance, drama and symbolic protests.
After the flash mob, speakers at the human chain said, Teesta is not just a river—it is a symbol of life, agriculture, culture and future of North Bengal. Protecting the river means protecting the existence of people.
Among others, former member secretary of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Hamidur Rahman, member secretary of Gen-G Lalmonirhat Ayesha Siddika Katha, senior joint member secretary Mridul Habib, joint convener Yusuf Ahmed Rokon, member Kamruzzaman Sumon.
The program was presided over by Shahid Islam Sujan, convener of Gen-G Lalmonirhat. He said, "The Teesta River is the root of our history, economy and culture. Once this river was the lifeblood of agriculture, but now it has become a symbol of suffering. Thousands of people have been displaced due to river erosion and floods. Previous governments have spent billions of taka on luxury projects, but have not taken effective initiatives for the people of Rangpur region. We, the young generation, are standing against discrimination. Work on the Teesta mega project must start before the upcoming national elections. Teesta is not just a river—it is a symbol of our existence.”
The flash mob was conducted by Shiv Sundar Barman, general secretary of Jhongkar Youth Cultural Ramzan Ali Organization. The program was hosted by Atiqur Rahman Shakil, senior joint convener of Gen-G Lalmonirhat.
This diverse protest by the youth received a huge response in the area. Locals said that such cultural protests by the youth demanding protection of Teesta have added a new dimension to the movement.
