D. Mir Shah Alam (Call sign: S21 MIR) has been elected as the President of the Bangladesh Amateur Radio Association (ARAB). The announcement was made at a ceremony held on Monday, November 10.
D. Mir Shah Alam, a former Director of Bangladesh Betar (Radio Bangladesh), currently serves as the Chief Adviser of the SAARC (South Asia) Radio Club, President of Akhaura Railway High School Alumni Association, Scout Leader and PresidentRotary Club of Sylhet New city , Sylhet Diabetic Association and Jalalabad Rotary Hospital, among other social organizations.
The newly formed 11-member Executive Committee of ARAB includes Vice President Syed S M Jahangir Alam (S21 ACD) and General Secretary Anup Kumar Chowdhury (S21 TV).
The primary goal of ARAB is to assist people affected by natural disasters by maintaining communication through radio equipment and frequencies when traditional telecommunication systems fail. To achieve this, ARAB trains and supports individuals in developing knowledge and skills in radio operation.
Ultimately, ARAB plays a vital role in promoting amateur radio practices in Bangladesh and enhancing emergency communication capabilities, thereby contributing to the creation of a resilient and informed society.
