Hundreds of Santals have stood in front of the Gaibandha Police Superintendent's office demanding immediate arrest and trial of the land grabbers identified on them. The sit-in program was organized by the National Adivasi Parishad, Sahebganj Bagdafarm Bhoomi Baksh Sangram Committee, Adivasi Bengali Samhati Parishad and Samajik Sangram Parishad on Monday afternoon.
Dr. Philimon Basak, President of Sahebganj Bagdafarm Bhoomi Baksh Sangram Committee, chaired the one-and-a-half-hour sit-in program, in which Adv. Sirajul Islam Babu, Jahangir Kabir Tonu, Golam Rabbani Musa, Morshed Hasan Dipan, Abhijit Das Abhi, Suman Chakraborty, Btish Soren, Bimal Besra, Ripon Besra, Trishna Murmu, and others spoke.
The speakers said that on April 12, in the Bagdafarm area of Gobindaganj, a peaceful procession was ambushed by Santal and Bengali farmers under the leadership of Dr. Philimon Basak, the president of the Sahebganj Bagdafarm Land Salvation Committee. In this, 6 Santals, including a woman, were seriously injured. The speakers alleged that 12 terrorists, including identified land grabbers of the area, Swapan Sheikh, Ataur Rahman Sabu, Abdur Rouf Babu, Mohalain Pradhan, attacked the procession with various indigenous weapons. Among the seriously injured, Shiuli Mardi, Lucas Murmu, Mamali Hasda were treated at the local health complex.
In this incident, a complaint was filed against the terrorist land grabbers at Gobindaganj Police Station that evening. But the Gobindaganj Police Station has not yet recorded the complaint as a case. As a result, the terrorists are reckless and are threatening the innocent Santals in various ways. As a result, they are suffering from insecurity.
The speakers expressed concern during the sit-in and demanded immediate registration of cases and arrest and trial of the accused. During the sit-in, the leaders submitted a memorandum to Superintendent of Police Md. Jasim Uddin.
Earlier, ignoring the scorching sun, Santals from Santal Palli in Gobindaganj came to Gaibandha town with bows and arrows and musical instruments and took a stand in front of the Superintendent of Police office.
