Muslem Uddin, the former five-time Member of Parliament from Mymensingh-6 (Phulbaria), has passed away. He died at around 11:30 am on Saturday (May 2) while undergoing treatment at Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital in Dhaka, due to age-related complications. He was 88.
He is survived by two sons, two daughters, and a host of relatives and admirers.
Muslem Uddin had a long political career, being elected to Parliament five times as a Bangladesh Awami League candidate in the 3rd (1986), 7th (1996), 9th (2008), 10th (2014), and 11th (2018) national elections. He was also elected as a member of the Constituent Assembly in 1970.
In his professional life, he was a lawyer. He also served as the former president of Mymensingh District Awami League and Phulbaria Upazila Awami League.
His son and Phulbaria Upazila Awami League president Imdadul Haque Selim confirmed the news, saying he died while receiving treatment at the hospital.
According to family sources, his first janaza will be held on Sunday morning at the Mymensingh District Bar Association premises, the second at Phulbaria Government High School ground at 3 pm, and the third at the Muslem Uddin Orphanage field at 5 pm. He will later be buried at his family home in Newgi Kushmail area of the upazila.
