Ahead of World Press Freedom Day, to be observed on May 3, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yaser Khan Chowdhury has extended greetings to journalists across the country.
In a statement issued on Saturday, he expressed appreciation for journalists, writers, photojournalists, and media professionals who are engaged in courageous and objective reporting.
He said that objective journalism plays an indispensable role in strengthening democracy and nation-building. “A free and responsible media acts as a mirror of society and plays a vital role in ensuring transparency and accountability in the state,” he added.
The minister also reiterated the government’s position, stating that the current administration under Tarique Rahman firmly believes in full freedom of the media.
Praising the dedication of media professionals in ensuring the free flow of information, he expressed hope that journalists would continue their work in the best interest of the country. He concluded by wishing continued success for all journalists.
It is noted that World Press Freedom Day is observed globally on May 3 each year to uphold press freedom and to honor journalists who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
