A colorful rally and discussion meeting were held in Barisal on the occasion of May Day and National Occupational Health and Safety Day. The Great May Day and National Occupational Health and Safety Day were celebrated in Barisal under the theme 'Healthy Workers' Hands, New Dawn Will Come This Time'.
On the occasion of the day, a colorful rally was organized by the Barisal District Administration and Regional Labor Department under the leadership of Barisal Local Government Director Khondaker Anwar Hossain on Friday, May 1 at 9:30 am.
After the rally, a discussion meeting was held at the District Shilpakala Academy on the significance of the day. The chief guest at the meeting was Barisal-5 constituency MP Adv. Mujibur Rahman Sarwar. In his speech, the chief guest said that to build a prosperous Bangladesh, ensuring the fair rights of the working people is the need of the hour.
It is essential to create a safe working environment and establish a social security system for them. In addition to establishing fair wages and rights for workers, a good working environment and good mutual relations between employers and workers must be maintained. He also expressed optimism that a truly labor-friendly society will be developed if the occupational health protection of workers is ensured.
He also said that no work in the world is small, but every work is honorable. The role of hard work and sacrifice of workers is immense behind the progress and economic prosperity of the country. Therefore, he also commented that it is everyone's moral responsibility to ensure proper respect, fair evaluation and rights for workers.
Additional District Magistrate Upma Farisa presided over the discussion meeting. Barisal Local Government Department Director Khondaker Anwar Hossain, Range DIG Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Police Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam, Additional Police Superintendent Md. Alaul Hasan, and Regional Labor Department Barisal Deputy Director Md. Moniruzzaman spoke as special guests on the occasion.
Present at the event were officials from various government departments, representatives of non-governmental development organizations, representatives of transportation and owners' associations, and owners and workers of industrial establishments.
