A formal application was filed on Thursday (7 May) seeking to initiate a case against 16 individuals, including former high-ranking officials of the interim government, following a fatal aircraft crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara.
The petition was submitted to the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam by Usaimong Marma, the father of Ukya Chaing Marma, a student who tragically lost his life in the incident.
High-Profile Accused
The application seeks to hold several prominent figures accountable for the deaths of students, including:
Dr. Muhammad Yunus: Former Chief Adviser of the interim government.
Dr. Asif Nazrul: Former Law Adviser.
Hasan Mahmood Khan: Chief of Air Staff, Bangladesh Air Force.
Thirteen others associated with the administration and military leadership.
Context of the Incident
The case stems from a "milestone" plane crash involving a military or training aircraft that struck the premises of Milestone School and College. The petitioner alleges negligence and seeks justice for the students killed during the disaster, which occurred amid a period of significant political transition in the country.
The court is expected to review the application and decide on the next legal steps regarding the investigation and official filing of the First Information Report (FIR).
