Transport Worker dies after clash at terminal: Case filed against 34 including Muhim Shahjahan

A transport worker Delwar Hossain (35), who was injured in an internal clash between transport workers over the occupation of a counter at the Kadamtali Central Bus Terminal in Sylhet city has died.

He died at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on Thursday (May 7) while undergoing treatment after being seriously injured. He is the son of Md. Azir Uddin of Baghbari village in Beanibazar upazila.

Confirming this on Thursday, SMP's Dakshin Surma Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Ashrafuzzaman said that Delwar Hossain died while undergoing treatment.

Earlier, the progress and investigation of the case filed by the deceased's father at the Dakshin Surma Police Station on Wednesday (May 6) is ongoing. The case has been transferred as a murder case. It is learnt that clashes broke out between transport workers on the Sylhet-Jagannathpur route on April 27 over the occupation of the Transport Workers Union's counter.

During the clash, various buses and ticket counters were vandalized. This spread panic throughout the area and several workers were injured. Police were initially deployed to control the situation, but later the army came and brought the situation under control. Then the situation gradually normalized. 7 workers were admitted to the hospital in this incident. Two workers have already died while undergoing treatment.

It is learned that while the transport worker who died on Thursday was undergoing treatment in the ICU of Delwar Hossain Hospital, his father Md. Azir Uddin filed an attempt to murder case on Wednesday (May 6) naming 19 people including Sylhet District Bus Minibus Coach Microbus Transport Workers Union General Secretary Abdul Muhim
and worker leader Shahjahan
. In addition, 10/15 other unidentified people were named as accused in the case. The accused in the case are Shahjahan (40), son of the deceased Abdul Mannan of Ghoshgaon village of Golapganj police station, Abdul Muhim (55), son of Abdul Matin of Daripatan village, Riazul Islam Rajan (45), son of Abdul Barik of Chandanbagh village, Abul Hossain Abul (50), son of Sarmin Ali of Phulbari village, Mohammad Sundar Ali (38), son of the deceased Mabshir Ali of Janaiya village of Bishnath police station, Pappu (25), son of Abul Hossain of Phulbari village of Golapganj police station and his brother Apu (24), son of the deceased Rasid Ali of Ronikhail village of the same police station, Fajr Ali (45), son of the deceased Moyna Mia of Mollargaon village of Bishnath police station, Selim Uddin (50), son of Taslim Uddin of Sheikhpara village of Bhadesh, Golapganj police station, Abdul Hannan Kale (55), A. Roop (45), son of Abdul Mannan of Ghoshgaon village, Tuhin Islam (22) and Tofail Islam, son of Nazrul Islam of Banigazi Chandarpur village, Humayun (48), son of the deceased Islam Ali of Rupail village, Purbapara, Phulbari, Harun Mia (40), son of Zahur Uddin of Rampasha village of Bishnath police station, Azab Ali (45) and Bilal Ahmed (35), sons of Mabshir Ali of Janaiya village of the same police station, and Shahed Ahmed (40), son of Haji Abdus Shaheed of Baraiya Uttarbagh village of Golapganj police station.

Meanwhile, the case has been transferred to a murder case after the death of worker Delwar Hossain on Thursday (May 7), said SMP's Dakshin Surma Police Station OC Md. Ashrafuzzaman. He also said that the case is under investigation. Earlier, on Tuesday, the father of worker Ripon filed a case with South Surma Police Station, naming 29 people, including Sylhet District Bus-Minibus-Coach-Microbus Transport Workers Union President Mainul Islam and Joint General Secretary Ali Akbar Rajan, over the death of worker Ripon.

60 other unidentified people have been named as accused in the case. The case is under investigation, police said.
