BRAC Seed and Agro Enterprises Workshop held in Sylhet

Deputy Director of Sylhet Agricultural Extension Agriculturist Mohammad Shamsuzzaman said that farmers play a leading role in ensuring food security of the country and keeping the wheels of the economy moving.

Farmers are the pioneers of agricultural development. He said that to increase vegetable production in Sylhet, flood-tolerant technology, raised bed method, and unused haor and fallow land should be brought under cultivation. 

Adopting modern agricultural technology and ensuring government training and fair prices for farmers can bring revolutionary changes in vegetable cultivation in this region.

"Sex pheromone traps" or organic pesticides are being used in the production of poison-free and pesticide-free vegetables, which are also being exported to Europe. With the aim of developing the country's agriculture, the Department of Agricultural Extension is providing improved seeds, fertilizers and technical assistance, as well as developing canals and drainage systems to improve the irrigation system. 

'Farmers' Markets' have been set up for direct sale from the field to consumers, so that farmers get a fair price without middlemen.
He called on all concerned to ensure the proper use of modern agricultural technology, including bringing uncultivated land under cultivation, for the purpose of national progress and prosperity.

He said these things in his speech as the chief guest at a day-long workshop titled "Sustainable, Safe and Quality Food Production through Good Agricultural Practices" organized by BRAC Seed and Agro Enterprises at a prestigious hotel in Sylhet city on Sunday afternoon.

BRAC District Coordinator Md. Arif presided over the workshop, former president of Sylhet Press Club Ikramul Kabir, additional deputy director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Sylhet, agronomist Mohammad Anisuzzaman PP,
the main discussant, Engineer Fazle Rafi (PM, Agri Machinery), BRAC's Habiganj Regional Manager Md. Anisur Rahman was present as a special discussant.Territory Sales Officer of Srimangal, agronomist A,K, Shahriar, discussed biopesticides in detail. 

Territory Sales Officer, Sylhet, diploma agronomist Shaon Hawlader moderated the workshop, The speakers highlighted the importance of producing safe food, developing sustainable agricultural systems, conserving the environment, and protecting public health through good agricultural practices.
