A joint team of RAB-3 and RAB-7 arrested a fugitive couple sentenced to life imprisonment in a case filed under the Special Powers Act from Jorarganj area of Chattogram on Monday.
The arrested individuals were identified as Md Yusuf Gazi alias Siraj Gazi, 54, and his wife Mosammat Shukkuri Begum, 48. They were wanted under arrest warrants in connection with a case filed under Section 25-A(c) of the Special Powers Act, 1974.
According to RAB, the couple was convicted by the Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge, 8th Court, Dhaka, and sentenced to life imprisonment. After their conviction, they had allegedly remained absconding for years, changing their names and appearances while moving between different parts of the country.
Acting on a requisition from Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station, a RAB-3 team tracked down their whereabouts and, with assistance from RAB-7, arrested them in separate operations at around 5:55pm and 6:25pm on August 24.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the two detainees, RAB said.
