Members of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force arrested an alleged snatcher at Mugda Medical College Hospital in the capital on Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 12:45pm on September 4 in front of ICU-1 on the hospital’s sixth floor. Taking advantage of the crowd of critically ill patients and their relatives, the suspect, identified as Nazmul Alam Biplob, 28, allegedly attempted to flee after stealing a smartphone and a bag.
A patrol team of Ansar’s Dhaka Metropolitan East Zone, deployed under Sabujbagh Police Station, quickly responded to the incident. Led by PC Md Zakiul Islam, Ansar members Sri Sujit Chandra and Ansar member Sri Tapas Chandra caught the suspect red-handed.
A subsequent search recovered the stolen smartphone and bag intact.
The suspect was later handed over to local police following instructions from the hospital authorities.
The incident highlights the role of Ansar members deployed at government hospitals in maintaining security and protecting patients and their belongings.
