Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has informally announced its mayoral candidates for the upcoming Dhaka North and South City Corporation elections.
The party announced the names on Monday (September 14), naming Mohammad Selim Uddin, ameer of Jamaat’s Dhaka North city unit, as its candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
For Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), the party has nominated Abu Sadiq Kayem, vice-president of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU).
Selim Uddin is a member of Jamaat’s Central Executive Council and currently serves as ameer of the party’s Dhaka North city unit. Before joining Jamaat, he was the central president of its student wing, Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Kayem played a prominent role as a coordinator during the 2024 student-led mass uprising. He was later elected DUCSU vice-president in the September 2025 elections. He also previously served as president of the Dhaka University unit of Chhatra Shibir and later as the organisation’s central international affairs secretary.
