Bangladesh’s gas supply rose to 2,610 mmcf at noon on Tuesday (15 September) as liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply from the Excelerate-operated terminal increased.
According to Petrobangla data, domestic gas fields supplied 1,620 mmcf, while imported LNG contributed 990 mmcf.
The latest increase has improved the national gas supply situation, bringing it close to pre-disruption levels.
At 10pm on Monday, total gas supply stood at 2,582 mmcf, including 980 mmcf of imported LNG. Earlier at 8pm, total supply was 2,362 mmcf, with LNG contributing 762 mmcf.
The Excelerate-operated Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) at Moheshkhali was damaged in a fire during an LNG ship-to-ship transfer on 21 July, disrupting LNG supply to the national grid for several weeks.
Although the FSRU resumed operations in August, supply was interrupted again on 19 August after the terminal ran out of LNG. Supply resumed on 22 August at a reduced level.
The latest rise in LNG injection to 990 mmcf has helped ease pressure on the national gas network.
