The Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to hand over 15 re-excavated canals under the Dhaka-Narayanganj-Demra (DND) project to the city corporation.
The MoU was signed on September 27, 2026, at the conference room of the BWDB headquarters at Pani Bhaban in Dhaka.
BWDB Director (Board) SM Humayun Kabir signed the agreement on behalf of the water development board, while DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md Khaybar Rahman signed on behalf of the city corporation.
BWDB Director General Engineer Md Ruhul Amin, additional director generals, additional chief engineers, senior BWDB officials and senior DSCC officials attended the signing ceremony.
Speaking at the event, BWDB Director General Engineer Md Ruhul Amin said proper management of the re-excavated canals was essential to maintaining the drainage system in the DND area and improving long-term waterlogging conditions.
He said regular maintenance and proper management of the canals after re-excavation would be necessary to ensure lasting benefits.
The MoU establishes a clear framework for responsibilities and coordination between the two organisations in managing the canals, he added.
