Dhaka University held a discussion meeting on Tuesday to identify measures for protecting public health from the harmful effects of tobacco and smoking and to establish the university as a tobacco- and smoke-free campus.
The meeting, titled “Legal Obligations of Dhaka University and the Role of Dhaka University Journalists Association in Ensuring a Tobacco- and Smoke-Free Campus,” was jointly organised by the Dhaka University Journalists Association (DUJA) and Development Organisation of the Rural Poor (DORP).
The event was held at the meeting room of the Shaheed Mofazzal Haider Chowdhury Arts Building, with DUJA President Md Manjur Hossain in the chair.
The meeting discussed the university’s legal responsibilities in preventing tobacco use and smoking on campus, as well as the role of journalists and other stakeholders in raising awareness and ensuring compliance.
The organisers said coordinated initiatives are needed to protect students, teachers, employees and visitors from exposure to tobacco smoke and to create a healthier campus environment.
