Emphasizing the development of the country’s sports sector to an international standard and the need to raise a skilled, disciplined, and responsible generation, Member of Parliament from Paba-Mohanpur constituency, Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, has stressed the importance of sports development alongside moral education.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at the closing and prize distribution ceremony of the Primary School Gold Cup Football Tournament (Boys & Girls) 2026, organized by the Directorate of Primary Education in Paba and Mohanpur upazilas of Rajshahi on Monday (May 4).
MP Milon said that along with physical and mental development, children and adolescents must be educated in moral and religious values. A lack of moral education can lead young people astray. Therefore, to build future leadership, it is essential to develop individuals with strong character and integrity.
Highlighting the importance of sports, he noted that sports play a vital role in fostering teamwork, discipline, and leadership skills.The experience gained on the field through regular practice and proper strategies also contributes positively to success in future professional life.
He further mentioned that the government is working to expand opportunities for sports at the grassroots level, increase participation in various events, and ensure a conducive environment for sports development.
Among others present at the event held at Mohanpur Government High School field were Upazila Nirbahi Officer Fahima Binte Akhtar, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Jobaida Sultana, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohanpur Police Station Mizanur Rahman, Upazila Education Officer Kamal Uddin, and Project Implementation Officer Engineer Md. Tarikul Islam, along with other local dignitaries.
Among the political leaders present were Mohanpur Upazila BNP General Secretary Mahbub-or-Rashid, Upazila BNP Organizing Secretary Bacchu Rahman, former Organizing Secretary and former Union Parishad Chairman Kazim Uddin, District BNP Member Mizanur Rahman Mizan, and President of the Upazila Sports Association and Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal Jahangir Alam.
Meanwhile, at the event held at Duari Government Primary School field in Paba, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Ibnul Abedin, former mayor of Nowhata Municipality Sheikh Mokbul Hossain, and local political and social leaders were also present.
