Members of the Hill Village Defence Party (Hill VDP) swiftly cleared a road blocked by a landslide in Bandarban's Lama upazila on Tuesday, restoring communication despite heavy rainfall.
The landslide occurred in Gazalia Union following continuous rain, cutting off road connectivity in the area. Under the leadership of VDP Platoon Leader Hafizur Rahman, who is attached to the Gazalia Army Camp, Hill VDP members immediately launched a clearance operation.
Working in adverse weather conditions, the team removed soil and cut down fallen trees that had blocked the road, allowing traffic to resume within a short time.
Local residents praised the Hill VDP members for their prompt response and humanitarian efforts, saying their dedication helped minimise disruption and ensured public safety despite the difficult conditions.
Officials said the operation reflects the ongoing role of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party in supporting local communities, particularly in remote and disaster-prone areas of the Chattogram Hill Tracts.
The Village Defence Party (VDP) was established in 1976 with the objective of strengthening grassroots security and community resilience. Over the years, Hill VDP members have become an important support force during emergencies, assisting local authorities in disaster response, maintaining communication and serving people in times of need.
The successful road clearance operation once again demonstrated the commitment of Hill VDP members to public service and disaster management in Bangladesh's hilly regions.
