Three people were killed and two others seriously injured after a passenger bus collided head-on with a cattle-laden pickup van in Pakundia upazila of Kishoreganj on Monday afternoon. Seven cattle being transported in the pickup also died in the crash.
The accident occurred around 3:30 pm on the Dhaka–Kishoreganj highway near the Egarasindur Cold Storage area adjacent to Sukhia Bazar.
The deceased were identified as Billal, 35, Abu Sayeed Khurshid, 39, and Abdus Sobhan Khokon, 39. All were residents of Kundarpara village in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi district.
According to police and local witnesses, an Ananya Classic passenger bus was travelling from Dhaka to Kishoreganj when it collided head-on with the pickup coming from the opposite direction. The impact crushed the pickup, killing its three occupants on the spot. Seven cattle being transported in the vehicle also died instantly.
Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing a loud crash and rescued the injured before sending them to Kishoreganj 250-bed General Hospital. Hospital sources said the two injured victims were undergoing treatment and remained in critical condition.
Pakundia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) S.M. Arifur Rahman confirmed the incident, saying police recovered the bodies and were sending them to the morgue of Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
He added that the damaged vehicles had been removed from the highway, restoring normal traffic, and legal proceedings, including the filing of a case, were underway.
