Prime Minister Tarique Rahman may reassign ministerial portfolios or appoint new members to his advisory council if he is not satisfied with their performance, Information and Broadcasting Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman said on Monday.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Secretariat, Zahed said the prime minister's priority is to ensure effective governance and improve public service delivery. He noted that cabinet changes could be considered whenever necessary if the prime minister believes such decisions would better serve the people.
Asked whether a reshuffle would take place before or after the government's first 180 days in office, Zahed said he could not confirm any timeline.
"I've also seen the media reports, but I have nothing further to add," he said.
The adviser contrasted the current administration with what he described as previous authoritarian governments, saying the present government is willing to review its decisions and make changes when needed.
"From my discussions with the prime minister, I understand that if he feels someone is not performing as expected, he may reassign responsibilities or appoint new advisers if necessary. The ultimate objective is to ensure the welfare of the people," Zahed said.
He added that if the prime minister believes a decision can be improved, "he will certainly take the necessary steps," but reiterated that he could not say whether any changes would come before or after the 180-day mark.
Zahed also said a gazette notification regarding the formation of the panel is expected to be issued later this week.
