Experts warn that air and water pollution, extreme heatwaves, erratic rainfall, cyclones, floods, and prolonged droughts are increasing the incidence of respiratory illnesses, cardiovascular diseases, heat-related conditions, waterborne diseases, and malnutrition.
Bangladesh is among the countries most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Rising sea levels, river erosion, salinity intrusion, loss of agricultural land, and shortages of safe drinking water are putting millions of people at risk, particularly in coastal areas. In urban centres, vehicle emissions, industrial pollution, and poor waste management continue to worsen air quality.
Environmental experts say tackling the crisis requires coordinated action from governments, businesses, communities, and individuals. They stress the need to expand the use of renewable energy, increase tree plantation, reduce plastic pollution, improve waste management systems, and promote environmentally sustainable urban planning.
They also warn that protecting the environment is essential for safeguarding public health and ensuring a sustainable future. Without immediate and effective action to address pollution and climate change, future generations are expected to face even greater environmental and health challenges.
