Members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force detained a suspected mugger while performing traffic duty in Narayanganj city on Saturday afternoon.
The incident occurred at around 4pm on September 19 when an agitated group of local people chased a young man suspected of involvement in mugging.
The suspect, identified as Shakil Mia, 19, attempted to flee through an area adjacent to an Ansar traffic duty post. The on-duty Ansar members chased and detained him.
The members who played a key role in the arrest were PC Md Millad Biswas, Ansar member Md Imran Nazir and Md Shafiqul Islam.
Later, the detained youth was handed over to police for further legal action.
The incident highlights the role of Ansar members in assisting law enforcement agencies and maintaining public safety while performing duties on roads and at important public and private establishments.
