The Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force has addressed long-standing cooking and safe drinking water problems at the DESCO Ansar Guard in Mirpur, Dhaka, following directives from the force's Director General, Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud.
On October 11, the director of Dhaka Metropolitan Ansar and zone commander of the western zone visited the guard under the Director General's instructions. They spoke with members on duty and reviewed issues relating to accommodation, kitchen facilities and safe drinking water.
Following the visit, a new gas stove with a 35-kilogram-capacity gas cylinder was provided to improve cooking facilities. A new electric water filter with a capacity of 60 litres was also installed to ensure access to safe drinking water.
Meanwhile, steps are underway to divide the guard into two sections to address accommodation problems.
The DESCO Ansar Guard began operations on January 1, 2026. It currently has 58 deployed Ansar personnel, including two platoon commanders, one assistant platoon commander and 55 Ansar members.
The personnel provide security at eight locations and sub-offices of Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO).
Members of the guard expressed gratitude to the Director General for addressing their long-standing problems, saying the improvements would make daily life easier and help boost morale and motivation in carrying out their duties.
The force said initiatives to improve accommodation, access to safe drinking water and other essential facilities are part of broader efforts to improve members' welfare, working conditions and operational capacity.
