School feeding gains popularity in Bhola

A monitoring visit and discussion meeting on the school feeding program was held at government primary schools in Daulatkhan upazila of Bhola. The event took place on Thursday at the premises of Char Gumani Government Primary School. Organized by Grameen Jan Unnayan Sangstha (GJUS), the program is being implemented under the Government of Bangladesh's school feeding initiative. 
The chief guest at the event was Alhaj Golam Nabi Alamgir, Convener of Bhola District BNP and Administrator of the District Council. Special guests included GJUS Executive Director Zakir Hossain Mohin, Head Teacher Md. Nazim Uddin, Managing Committee President Mizanur Rahman Bahar, Upazila Teachers' Association General Secretary Md. Abdul Hai, and GJUS Additional Director Dr. Md. Khalilur Rahman.The meeting was chaired by Upazila Primary Education Officer Md. Zahid Uddin and moderated by GJUS Director Md. Mostafa Kamal. 
Teachers, guardians, local representatives, and relevant officials attended the program. Discussions focused on improving the quality of education, increasing student attendance, assessing the effectiveness of nutritional support, and strengthening the overall education system. 
Speakers noted that the school feeding program plays a vital role not only in ensuring students' nutrition but also in reducing dropout rates and improving regular attendance. They emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to make the program more effective. Students also shared positive experiences.  Fifth-grade student Tamim said that previously he often felt hungry at school, but now receiving food has made it easier to concentrate in class. Another student, Cynthia, mentioned that she now enjoys coming to school more and feels less fatigued even after playing. Assistant teacher Taslima Begum reported an increase in student enrollment and the return of previously dropped-out students. 
Teacher Azizun Nahar added that it was once difficult to keep students engaged after tiffin break, but now they remain attentive until the end of classes. GJUS Executive Director Zakir Hossain Mohin stated that the program ensures nutritious food for students, supporting both their physical and mental development. 
Chief guest Alhaj Golam Nabi Alamgir said the initiative is not just a food support program but an effective tool to bring students back to school, increasing attendance, reducing dropouts, and improving learning outcomes. Upazila Primary Education Officer Md. Zahid Uddin also highlighted that student attendance has significantly increased while dropout rates have declined, with nutritional support contributing positively to students' overall development. The meeting concluded with a strong emphasis on continuing coordinated efforts to improve school infrastructure, enhance education quality, and ensure the overall well-being of students.
