The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) has approved three metro rail projects with a combined estimated cost of Tk2,49,746 crore.
The approval came at an Ecnec meeting on Wednesday, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The projects include revised cost proposals for the Japan-funded MRT Line-1 (Airport–Kamalapur) and MRT Line-5 Northern (Hemayetpur–Bhatara), along with MRT Line-5 Southern (Gabtoli–Dasherkandi), which will be jointly financed by the Asian Development Bank and South Korea.
The 31.24-kilometre MRT Line-1 has an estimated cost of Tk1,14,394.89 crore, while the 20-kilometre MRT Line-5 Northern is estimated to cost Tk89,848.36 crore.
MRT Line-5 Southern was initially the only project scheduled for approval at Wednesday’s meeting, but the two revised Japan-funded projects were also placed before Ecnec and approved.
