The body of a 13-year-old boy who went missing from Kotbari in Cumilla has been recovered from a jungle near Magic Paradise Park, adjacent to Cumilla University.
The deceased, Ishiat Shahriar Opritom, was the son of a teacher at Cumilla University. His body was recovered around 1pm on Saturday, university authorities said.
A serious injury mark was found on his head when the body was recovered.
Cumilla University Assistant Proctor Mahmudul Hasan confirmed the recovery, saying the body would be handed over to Sadar Dakshin police for further legal procedures.
Opritom had left his home in the Kotbari area under Ward 24 of Sadar Dakshin police station on foot at around 3pm on Friday. He did not return home afterward.
His mother, Dr Nahida Begum, had appealed for help through a Facebook post, saying her son was 13 years old and a Class Seven student. She said he had left home wearing a blue Punjabi and had taken her iPhone to take photographs with friends but did not return.
She also said police had been informed and that attempts to track the phone had failed. According to her, the phone might not have been with Opritom, while the phone linked to his Facebook account had been left at home.
Opritom’s father, KM Firoz Shahriar, filed a general diary (GD) with Cumilla Sadar Dakshin Police Station after his son went missing.
Police are expected to take further legal action following the recovery of the body.
