Members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) have stepped in to assist an impoverished farming family in Thakurgaon after the family's sole breadwinner became mentally ill, leaving their crops at risk of being lost.
The incident took place in Hariharpur village of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila, where farmer Md. Shahidul Islam suddenly lost his mental stability and became unable to work. As a result, mature jute and other crops in the family's fields were on the verge of being damaged, pushing the household into severe financial hardship.
After learning of the family's situation, Ansar and VDP members from Rahimanpur Union informed the district commandant, who directed an immediate humanitarian response. Under the leadership of VDP Team Leader Mosammat Dilruba, a group of Ansar and VDP volunteers harvested the family's mature jute crop and planted rice seedlings in several fields entirely on a voluntary basis.
The initiative helped revive the family's farming activities and renewed their hope for recovery. The family expressed gratitude to the volunteers, while local residents praised the humanitarian effort and the force's commitment to supporting vulnerable communities.
Bangladesh Ansar and VDP said its members continue to contribute not only to public safety but also to community welfare through voluntary humanitarian initiatives across the country.
